Douglas Lyons is a composer, lyricist, and actor originally from New Haven, CT. During his training at The Hartt School's BFA Musical Theatre program he took a year hiatus to tour on Tony Award wining show RENT. Post graduation in 2009 he's gone on to perform on Broadway and tour with shows such as The Book of Mormon, Dreamgirls and currently he's an Original Broadway Cast member of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Some of his other favorite credits include: The Huntington Theatre Company (Pirates), Yale Repertory Theatre (Galileo, Galilei) Pageant (BCEFA Off Broadway) and Astoria Performing Arts Center's (The Human Comedy). He was also seen on the LOGO TV Digital Series: Chorus Boys.
As a composer/lyricist he is half writing team Lyons & Pakchar, who’s work has been workshopped and featured at Lincoln Center’s Broadway Songbook Series, The 11th hour Theatre Company, Seattle Rep, The Music Theater Factory, The Sheen Center, Theatre Latte Da and The Johnny Mercer Writing Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. Lyons and Pakchar’s debut album #Love(Live) was nominated Best-Live Album of 2014 by Broadwayworld.com<http://broadwayworld.com/>. Lyons and Pakchar have recently been commissioned by Seattle's 5th Ave Theatre to write a brand new musical with Cheryl L. West.
Douglas’s conceived an original show titled Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical, which is inspired by Civil Rights Pioneers Ruby Bridges and The Little Rock Nine. Polkadots is getting multiple theatrical productions around the country in 2016. Polkadots also got an recording/distribution deal with Sony's Masterworks Broadway who released the World-Premiere Album on Sept 16th, 2016 that features cast members from The Wiz live, Hamilton, Glee and more.
Most importantly Douglas strives to use diverse stories to inspire children through art and remind them of their fullest potential and worth.
